Your First Question: Just Type in Plain English
You type your question in plain English and press Enter. That's all there is to it.
Now comes the nice moment: you ask your very first question and see with your own eyes that it works. You only need one thing: the writing box in the middle of the screen.
Where you type
In the middle you'll see an empty line waiting for you. Once the conversation starts, it slides down to the bottom. That's where you type your question, in plain everyday English, the way you'd talk. Small typos are no problem. ChatGPT understands you anyway.
- 1This is where you write to ChatGPT, the input line
And here's that same line up close, once you've typed something into it:
- 1The writing box, where you type your question
- 2The send button, or you can just press Enter
What you do now
Type this into the box, then press Enter or tap the send button:
Please write me a shopping list for vegetable soup for four people, in plain English.
In a few seconds a tidy list appears on the screen, line by line.
- 1That's your question, in plain English
- 2And that's ChatGPT's answer, a tidy list
That's your first small win, and you did it all on your own. If you like, swap the vegetable soup for another dish you enjoy, and you'll see it works again and again.
